Senior Client Engineer
Responsibilities
- Design and support client solutions using Daylife’s platform
- Specify and direct (or execute) professional services to support client applications
- Build internally- and externally-facing tools to support client implementations
- Train, support, and write documentation for clients
- Design, document, and communicate to clients our product best practices
- Draft the technical parts of responses to RFPs and RFIs
- Sales engineering: support sales efforts, due diligence, and technical trials by prospective clients
Qualifications
- A BS in computer science or equivalent
- At least 6 years’ postgrad work experience, with 2+ years in client-facing roles
- A demonstrable record of success in an internet-focused company
- Facility in a range of programming languages, with expertise in Python, PHP, and Linux preferred
- A solid foundation in supporting web app development, including infrastructure, application and database design, information retrieval, and content management systems
- A strong understanding of CSS, Javascript, and HTML
- Ability to communicate fluently with both technical and non-technical users
- A passion for technology, the internet, and digital publishing
- Exceptional commercial instincts

Senior Software Engineer
You’ll develop scalable systems for organizing and delivering information around the world, add new features to our customer APIs, improve our search performance, enhance the quality of our information extraction, and evolve our engineering tools to shorten our release cycles.
Requirements:
- Strong problem-solving spirit
- Expert in (C || Java) & Python
- Expert UNIX network programming skills – IP protocols, sockets, IPC, event-driven programming and frameworks (libevent, NIO)
- Expert knowledge of Linux programming and POSIX operating system concepts, and debugging in a Linux environment — processes, pthreads, memory model, filesystems, system introspection and debugging tools
- Strong software design skills. Write well-organized, maintainable, testable code
- Solid knowledge of version control with subversion; git knowledge a plus
- RHEL / CentOS administration or operating experience a plus
- Strong leadership, teamwork, coaching, and communication skills

Senior UI Designer / Developer
You’ll develop online publishing systems and tools in JavaScript and CSS/XHTML (and sometimes Python) to enable editors and journalists to tell stories in new ways. Your natural leadership and collaboration skills will also be engaged as you help your peers navigate requirements and use cases, generate brave and innovative solution candidates, produce mockups and other useful artifacts, solicit customer feedback, rapidly prototype solutions, and help the team iteratively ship solutions. You’ll code and lead using sound engineering practices including test-driven development, object-oriented design, ongoing refactoring, peer review, and data-driven decision making.
Requirements
- Strong problem-solving spirit
- Experience in a variety of solutioning techniques which may include one or more of Information Architecture (IA), iterative design, paper prototyping, User Centered Design (UCD), and usability testing
- Expert in JavaScript, CSS/XHTML, and templating frameworks (preferably in Python)
- Avoiding cross-browser pitfalls is second-nature
- Experience in progressive enhancement, accessibility and related web standards
- Well versed in frontend optimizations such as YSlow! performance techniques and semantic markup friendly to humans and computers (SEO, multiple devices)
- AJAX-style web interaction development required
- Have successfully shipped interactive, database-backed web applications for high-traffic web sites
- Strong software design skills. Write well-organized, maintainable and testable code

Office Manager
Daylife is looking for an Office Manager to become part of our team and thrive as the “go to” person for all office-related issues. Daylife is a dynamic, well-funded startup at the intersection of digital media and technology with investors that include Getty Images and The New York Times.
Responsibilities
- Support senior management in financial and operations capacities, including accounts payable and receivable, billing, and banking
- Ensure the smooth functioning of the office by maintaining all company contracts, licensing and legal files, and ordering of office & kitchen supplies
- Central contact for all building maintenance, fire safety, HVAC, lighting, pest control & overseeing of cleaning company
- Plan team-building trips, events & weekly lunches
- Book all company travel (flight, hotel, car, train)
- Event planning on & off-site (venues/light catering/equipment &
furniture rental) - Go-to person for varied HR-related issues or concerns
- Coordinate employee work spaces for new hires as well as acquiring
business cards and security passkey management and updates - Handling of FedEx/UPS/USPS accounts & shipments
- Negotiate rates & contracts for all vendors when necessary
- Contact point for some external companies renting space in Daylife
