Senior Client Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Design and support client solutions using Daylife’s platform
  • Specify and then direct (or execute) professional services to support client solutions
  • Build internally- and externally-facing tools to support client implementations
  • Train, support, and write documentation for clients
  • Design, document, and communicate to clients best practices for our products
  • Draft the technical parts of responses to RFPs and RFIs
  • Sales engineering: support sales efforts, due diligence, and technical trials by our prospective clients

Qualifications

  • A BS in computer science or equivalent
  • At least 6 years’ postgrad work experience, with 2+ years in client-facing roles
  • A demonstrable record of success in an internet-focused company
  • Facility in a range of programming languages, with expertise in Python, PHP, and Linux preferred
  • A solid foundation in supporting web app development, including infrastructure, application and database design, information retrieval, and content management systems
  • A strong understanding of CSS, Javascript, and HTML
  • Ability to communicate fluently with both technical and non-technical users
  • A passion for technology, the internet, and digital publishing

Site Operations Engineer

We want someone very familiar with Unix-based systems and modern programming languages, with prior experience maintaining large and complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Configuring Linux & OSX systems
  • Participation in 24/7 on-call coverage
  • Performing daily & monthly maintenance tasks (ie: patch upgrades, addressing security, etc)
  • Be a key player in defining & delivering on company’s long-term tech infrastructure strategy, with a focus on scalability

Required

  • Intimacy with Open Source Unix-based (Linux/Ubuntu espeically) systems, with 3+ years’ SysAdmin experience
  • Network monitoring systems – Nagios, Cacti, MRTG
  • Strong knowledge of administrative scripting languages – Bash, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Python, etc.
  • Familiarity with networking techonologies; specific knowledge with BGP, OSPF, HSRP, VRRP/CARP
  • Familiar with DNS, HTTP, SMTP, SQL protocols – can “speak” these protocols
  • Intermediate knowledge of SAN/NAS/DAS storage technologies
  • Ability to recognize the right tool for the problem
  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems, and communicate well within a team
  • Capable of explaining highly technical problems in English
  • Strong document ethic – capable of maintaining and authoring internal procedure & policies
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs computer equipment and hardware as needed
  • For this role, ability to work in Manhattan daily is required

Desired

  • A college degree is nice, but actual industry experience and knowledge matter more
  • Experience in a datacenter environment, racking machines, clean/well documented cabling – if you’re afraid to get your hands dirty, we’re not for you
  • Familiarity with LNMR (Linux Nginx MySQL Ruby) software stack
  • Experience with SNMP and other network monitoring tools such as Nagios and Cacti
  • Direct familiarity with Chef, Git, RPMs, log file analysis

Senior Software Engineer

You’ll develop scalable systems for organizing and delivering information around the world, add new features to our customer APIs, improve our search performance, enhance the quality of our information extraction, and evolve our engineering tools to shorten our release cycles.

Requirements:

  • Strong problem-solving spirit

  • Expert UNIX network programming skills – IP protocols, sockets, IPC, event-driven programming and frameworks (libevent, NIO)

Senior UI Designer / Developer

You’ll develop online publishing systems and tools in JavaScript and CSS/XHTML (and sometimes Python) to enable editors and journalists to tell stories in new ways. Your natural leadership and collaboration skills will also be engaged as you help your peers navigate requirements and use cases, generate brave and innovative solution candidates, produce mockups and other useful artifacts, solicit customer feedback, rapidly prototype solutions, and help the team iteratively ship solutions. You’ll code and lead using sound engineering practices including test-driven development, object-oriented design, ongoing refactoring, peer review, and data-driven decision making.

Requirements

  • Strong problem-solving spirit
  • Experience in a variety of solutioning techniques which may include one or more of Information Architecture (IA), iterative design, paper prototyping, User Centered Design (UCD), and usability testing
  • Expert in JavaScript, CSS/XHTML, and templating frameworks (preferably in Python)
  • Avoiding cross-browser pitfalls is second-nature
  • Experience in progressive enhancement, accessibility and related web standards
  • Well versed in frontend optimizations such as YSlow! performance techniques and semantic markup friendly to humans and computers (SEO, multiple devices)
  • AJAX-style web interaction development required
  • Have successfully shipped interactive, database-backed web applications for high-traffic web sites
  • Strong software design skills. Write well-organized, maintainable and testable code
  • Experience or eagerness to adopt agile or comparable iterative development process
  • Knowledge of version control (preferably subversion)
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills

Business Development Manager

The Business Development Manager will maintain and expand Daylife’s client base by selling a SaaS publishing suite to publishers and marketers.​ This includes building new business through outbound cold calling; cross-selling new products into existing accounts and via partners; traveling to customer meetings; and doing on-site product demos and trade shows within the assigned territory or as needed, engaging whatever technical resources are required.​ The Business Development Manager will build and maintain customer relationships to facilitate product cross selling, long-term contracts, and initial maintenance revenue.​

Qualifications:

  • Experience selling high-end software based solutions, including SaaS (Software as a service)
  • Strong media and technology acumen
  • An understanding of digital publishing technologies and CMS’s considered a plus
  • Strong telephone skills, a professional customer service attitude, and a strong desire to win
  • The ideal candidate must be aggressive, energetic, and professional
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
