A Russian warplane dropped a bomb on an apartment block in the Georgian town of Gori on Saturday, killing at least 5 people, a Reuters reporter said. Authorities warned villagers in flood-ravaged northern India not to return to their homes Friday because the unpredictable river that burst its banks could flood again. But thousands ignored their calls and took the receding waters as a sign that the danger had passed, officials said.

The Supreme Court ordered on Thursday four more police battalions to be deployed to protect Christians in Orissa, where religious violence between Hindus and Christians has killed 16 people. Most of those killed were Christians.
