SAN DIEGO -- Center fielder Jim Edmonds was released Friday by the San Diego Padres after his batting average dipped to .178 -- more than 100 points below his lifetime average -- and he struggled to track down fly balls. Full Article at St. Louis Post-Dispatch
I walked five guys and you've got a guy with a 20.00 ERA [the Rockies' Jorge De La Rosa] who didn't hardly walk anybody. I'll probably get in trouble for it, but that changes the game.
I'm somewhat surprised, sure ... I had heard where he said he was getting in shape last winter — and that he really meant it.
He wants to play again, and I'd like to think someone would give him that chance.
The pitch just kind of gave out ... It went kind of in the dirt, and I felt something tweak on me in my elbow.
He maintained his stuff the whole way ... His workout today was what we were looking for.
I think he was a little frustrated and maybe a little surprised it happened this soon
He said he felt great this winter, was in the best shape he'd been in a long time, and thought he was going to have a real, real good year
I remember watching the ball, saying, 'Please, Jimmy, get there. Get there.' And he did. It was something amazing to watch, something amazing to be part of
He did things on a baseball field I've never seen any other center fielder do. That's not hyperbole. That's fact.
I've got two years ... I'm losing a lot of patience. When you're having a good year and your season is not going right, it's frustrating because you don't know how long this run will go.
