This Sydney Taronga Zoo handout image taken and released on July 4, 2009 shows a CCTV frame of a new-born elephant calf (top C) with its mother 'Thong Dee' (R) at the zoo in the early hours of the morning. The male calf is the first to be born in Australia and was delivered after a three hour labour. Zoo-keepers who assisted in the birth said that mother 'Thong Dee', who was previously a street elephant in Bangkok probably had little experience with calves and was initially surprised by the new arrival.
