This image released by NASA Thursday, July 2, 2009, from the the Lunar Reconnaisance Orbiter, the first robotic spaceship to examine the moon in more than a decade, shows the Mare Nubium, "Sea of Clouds," region of the moon, a crater-filled patch that is about nine-tenths of a mile wide (1400 meters). This image is from the southern region of the moon and the dark shadow is lunar night approaching the land. The probe will help NASA map better the lunar surface.
