While China's economic reforms of the past two decades has led to a more open attitude toward sex among a younger and wealthier generation, official attitudes remain paranoid. Last month a sex theme park that featured giant genitals and a sex-technique workshop in southwest China was torn down after officials deemed it an "evil influence" on society while more recently, a week-long gay pride festival in Shanghai which featured art exhibitions, film screenings and plays were marred by last-minute cancellations by local authorities citing lack of proper authorisation.
