Colombia's top rebel chief, Manuel Marulanda, has died of a heart attack after four decades fighting the state, his rebel group said in a video broadcast on May 26, 2008. Marulanda has been replaced by Cano. The current seven-member secretariat leading the FARC is made up of Cano, Briceno, Marquez, Gomez, Timoleon Jimenez, Pablo Catatumbo and Mauricio Jaramillo.
