West Hansen, of Chicago, Ill. kite surfs in Lake Michigan near North and Zoo beaches in Racine, Wis. , Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 17, 2009, in the eight-foot waves. Hansen said that if the water and air temperatures add up to 80 that he will kite surf and usually surfs until Thanksgiving when it becomes to cold. He said that the water and air temperatures were about 45 degrees today and the wind was blowing about 30 miles per hour making for great surfing. According to Hansen there about 100 kite surfers in the area with about 12 people still surfing this late into the year.
