The avalanche also slid over two other snowmobilers, who were able to swim to safety, Winterton said. "It's one of the biggest avalanches we've seen in a long time" Winterton said. The group was snowmobiling in Smith Basin between Bjorkman's Hollow and Co-op Creek - an area of the Western Uintas that sits about 9,500 feet above sea level and is cut with steep slopes, Winterton said.
