Playing a star-shaped bass and wearing star-shaped glasses, glitzy getups and platform boots, Collins became the first superstar bass-playing frontman - "the Jimi Hendrix of bass," Mallia Franklin of Parliament-Funkadelic calls him in "Unsung" - and went on to influence a new generation of artists.
