Nesson has called the RIAA's reach "disconcerting" and the law used to go after file-sharers antiquated. "The current copyright system is outdated ... The RIAA's efforts are a legal antique in our digital world." Although this is not the first time the RIAA has been challenged, Nesson does represent one of the more prominent members of the legal community to contest the industry's efforts to combat illegal downloading.
