The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to people who proved controversial in hindsight, and its reputation has survived intact ... Whether one is pleased with Henry Kissinger having received it, or Yasser Arafat, or Shimon Peres, nonetheless these people were judged as working to promote peace at the moment they were given the award. The fact that some people disagree with that has not in any way undermined the legitimacy or importance of this award.
