President Obama, trying to use diplomacy to defuse the standoff with Iran over its nuclear program, today marked the 30th anniversary of the event that ruined relations with the US -- the hostage crisis at the US embassy in Tehran. "This event helped set the United States and Iran on a path of sustained suspicion, mistrust, and confrontation" Obama said.
