Scurry holds the record for goalkeeper appearances, victories and shutouts for the United States and was the starter on the 1996 and 2004 Olympic teams that won the gold in the Atlanta and Athens, respectively, as well as the side that won the 1999 Women's World Cup in the U.S. Asked whether Scurry's omission from the roster meant that the player's international career was over, Sundhage said no. "If she plays in the league next year, she has a chance to come back, of course" Sundhage said, adding that Scurry had accepted the decision.
