A gun-toting Kent man was asked to leave a West Seattle community center today and he said he accomplished a key step toward legally challenging Mayor Greg Nickels' ban on firearms in city parks, community centers and other facilities.

The city council's budget committee, which includes every member of the council, voted today to eliminate a $25 fee on businesses for each employee who relies primarily on a single-occupant vehicle to commute to work.

Seattle public library gets budget reprieve

The Seattle City Council, sitting as its budget committee, today restored $863,000 to the public-library budget. That means the library will be able to provide seven-day-a-week service at 11 branches and the Central Library.
