A change had to be made. James Blake knew it. Brian Barker knew it. The tennis world probably knew it, too. with Kelly Jones as his new coach. Barker had been Blake's coach for over a decade. Heck, he had been the only coach Blake ever knew.

It started in '05 and I planned on it being a one-time thing. I wanted to do a tribute to my father because of how much he meant to so many others and what he meant to me ... But after that first time when I had Andy Roddick and John Mayer say yes so quickly, and after seeing the response from the fans, it made me think that I have to keep doing this. It was too important. I just had to do it because it makes so much of a difference in the lives of others.

The Scot had earlier completed his three-set victory over James Blake at 1.45am, got to bed at 4am and was back on court by 5.45pm to face Stepanek. I said last night that it would be difficult to come back and feel 100 per cent today.
