The figures emerged yesterday as childrens campaigners claimed the legislation on child prostitutes was not being taken seriously enough. Its believed as many as 500 children, some as young as 10, are being sexually exploited.

The Scottish Parliament unanimously voted for the Protection of Children and Prevention of Sexual Offences Act in 2005 in the hope that it would help tackle the sexual exploitation of children and young people in Scotland by predatory adults. Given that there have only been four prosecutions under the Act, it clearly isn't working.

There is no way the Liberal Democrats will be voting for a referendum on independence two months before a general election. That is my idea of a very silly political campaign and one that Mr Salmond would be delighted with. I do not have any interest in playing his games.
