APEC provides as it were, general goal setting for the entire region ... It's only 21 economies, but it's more than half the world's economy and half the world's global trade and it's by far the faster growing half of the world.
Unlike some previous APEC meetings in other countries, Singapore's APEC meetings went on peacefully without security problems, mass protest and law and order problems and this was achieved without having to shut down the city centre or declare a public holiday
Hence, many seek bilateral cooperation agreements with their neighbours and form regional and international networks to work out solutions. Singapore is amongst those that have undoubtedly benefited from regional and international cooperation.
