This is so not only because it begs the question by redefining the language and because it ignores basic biological reality, but most of all because the argument for striking down Proposition 8 treats history, culture, tradition and social convention...
Proposition 8 was a California ballot proposition passed in the November 4, 2008 general election and took effect on November 5, the day after the election. It changed the California Constitution to add a new section (7.5) to Article I, which reads: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.". This change... Requiring all states to license same-sex marriages, which is the goal of (the Proposition 8) plaintiffs, is more ambitious and far-reaching ... For supporters of equal marriage, the wisest strategy would be to get a DOMA case up to the Supreme Court first.
I get really annoyed by the hundreds of millions of dollars that both sides of Prop. 8 have spent
We are delighted that the Supreme Court has clearly reaffirmed our right, as the official proponents of Prop. 8, to defend over 7 million Californians who amended their own state constitution to restore traditional marriage ... This ruling is a huge disaster for the homosexual marriage extremists.
We fully expect the 9th Circuit, the most overturned court in America, to invalidate Prop. 8, finding some phony right to same-sex marriage in the U.S. Constitution ... However, once this case gets out of San Francisco and reaches the U.S. Supreme Court, we fully expect to be victorious.
It passed, and then someone tweeted David asking if we were going to get married, to which David replied, 'Yes, I proposed to Neil and he proposed to me.' Which I think sounded immediate and wasn't. It's exactly what we didn't want to do, because we contemplated getting married in California, before the...
Initial reports weren’t true in terms of a broad paintbrush. The people who voted for Proposition 8 were overwhelmingly conservative and religious. Some were black, but you have to look at it in a more sophisticated way. Like other communities, there’s certainly room for continued education.
This was an enormous lift to the defense of Prop. 8 because part of the strategy against Prop. 8 in the 9th Circuit was to not have anyone defending the law. Without any opposition, the case could have ended there
The decision ensures that Prop. 8 will have a full defense all the way to the United States Supreme Court, where we believe we are going to prevail
With today’s decision, the case challenging Prop. 8 returns to federal court, and we are one more step closer to ending discrimination against loving California couples. Thousands of California families remain in legal limbo, and we urge the 9th Circuit to quickly issue its decision.
Backers win right to fight for Prop. 8
This is not only an important victory in the battle to defend Proposition 8. It is also a victory for the voters of California to have their propositions defended, even when the Attorney General refuses to do so.
Like it or not, Prop 8 was passed legally and properly. If it's overturned, it should be overturned on its merits — as Walker's decision did — not thanks to a legal technicality. I hope they lose, but Prop 8's backers deserve their day in court.

I voted against Prop 8, but we have to respect the will of the majority . . . [and] not rely on left-wing judges to overturn the will of the people.
Although today's ruling from the California Supreme Court confirms that the proponents of Prop 8 have the legal right to defend their initiative when the state officials refuse to fulfill their sworn duty, it is gratifying to know that the over 7 million Californians who supported the initiative will ha...
an enormous boost for Proposition 8, as well as for the integrity of the initiative process itself.
Backers win right to fight for Prop. 8; The California Supreme Court's unanimous ruling clears the way for federal courts to decide gay marriage bans' constitutionality
People have to separate what they feel about Proposition 8 from what they feel about the right of the laws people have approved to have their day in court
Allowing the Prop 8 proponents to have special rights in court may open the floodgates to wealthy special interests to do the same
Because the people of California have a right to be defended, Proposition 8’s official proponents will be allowed to continue defending the marriage amendment
The court totally rejected their demand that their lawsuit to invalidate Proposition 8 should win by default with no defense
We're anxious to get to a decision on the merits that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional.
This victory is an enormous boost for Proposition 8 as well as the integrity of the initiative process itself. Today's decision is a critical step in our three-year battle to uphold marriage between a man and a woman. Now we can return our focus to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals
The court has ruled otherwise. This ruling now shifts the litigation to the federal court of appeals. I firmly believe that Proposition 8 violates the equal protection and due process clauses of the U.S. Constitution and am confident that justice will prevail
