Going and watching them play, I just kind of fell in love with their style of play ... It was one of those things where I look at Pauley, I knew I'd have to live up But I'm not trying to be the next Kevin Love though, I'm trying to be the next me.
I’m absolutely elated to have Josh Smith attending UCLA
Going and watching them play, I just kind of fell in love with their style of play ... It was one of those things where I look at Pauley, I knew I'd have to But I'm not trying to be the next Kevin Love though. I'm trying to be the next me.
You've got a guy going one-on-one and then we trap him and [the shot] goes on the board and they crash with all four guys ... You've got Josh Smith, who jumps to the moon, Al Horford – those guys were keeping balls alive.
In the end it was something I wanted to do. This was my choice and it's where I wanted to go. I would say at the end of my junior year. Before that, they were in the front kind of like what the rumors were saying. I gave the other schools a chance just to see. I wanted to look at every aspect of staying...
We didn't have enough energy. We never did get a grip ... Crawford played great. Joe Johnson did a good job. Josh Smith had an incredible game. We didn't respect his shot blocking. We needed an 'A' game from a lot of guys, and we didn't get it.
It's a big statement. Having a letdown loss last night, and being able to come in and beat the number two or three team last year in the Western Conference. That's a big boost of confidence
He's never taken a snap before, so he's not really our backup quarterback ... His yardage kind of surprised me, but he's tough to bring down. All those big runs weren't exactly how we had them drawn up. There was Josh Smith, kind of improvising at times.
I put it all on our fans ... They're the ones that have turned Philips Arena into what it is. We feed off of them when we're here, and we struggle without them on the road. The best teams in the league, the best of the very best, don't care where they play. We have to adopt that sort of attitude of want...
Coach (Josh Smith) told us coming in that tonight would be completely different ... We knew we'd have to face some adversity and adapt to it. We proved to ourselves tonight that we have to play hard every game and that we can win a close game.
Earlier in my career there was all this talk about the Western Conference being the true power but the Eastern Conference is just as powerful if not more these days ... If you want into that big boy club, you're going to have to go through one of these top-level teams. I think everybody understands that...
They're just a whole new team now ... We've got to get a good feel about this team as opposed to what they used to be. They've got a new coach, too, in Flip Saunders, so as much as we might want to look at them like the old Wizards, that's not who they are right now.
