The Newark Star-Ledger reported in July that Nets owner Bruce Ratner, flew to Moscow to discuss the possibility of the billionaire taking a stake in the team. Sports Illustrated quoted an unnamed source as saying Prokhorov would pass the league’s vetting process for owners.

Commissioner Stern has been very encouraging because I think he has done a fantastic job of globalizing the sport. Whether it be China or Russia or Europe or the Middle East, this league is probably the most advanced in terms of globalization and largely because of the Commissioner and the other owners.
