“We proved we can score goals against a good, organized team,” Columbus coach Robert Warzycha said. “Overall, our fitness was pretty good.” The same, however, cannot be said for Columbus’ most recent signing, Colombian forward Sergio Herrera, who... Full Article at Soccer News Info
Herrera, who signed with the club Feb.5, has played in some scrimmages in Arizona and Florida and a reserves game for the Crew but did not appear in a 2-2 tie against Toluca in a Champions League game Tuesday. "Today was not the game for Sergio," coach... Full Article at Columbus Dispatch
The red card changed everything ... We put ourselves into a situation where with 20 minutes to go we could have won the game. They were on their heels. They were scared of us.
And two-goal comebacks don't happen without the type of collective fortitude that made the 2008 Crew so special. "Obviously, it is the first game," said Crew coach Robert Warzycha, "but we proved to ourselves that against one of the best teams in... Full Article at MLSnet - Major League Soccer
Toluca took a 2-0 lead with goals by Antonio Naelson Sinha and Antonio Rios, but more impressive was the effort of the underdog Crew, which outplayed the deep and talented opponent in both halves and got two second-half goals from Steven Lenhart. ... Full Article at Columbus Dispatch
Not since Buddle's back-to-back double-digit hauls in 2003 (10 goals) and 2004 (11) has a Crew front-runner notched 10 or more goals, though Guillermo Barros Schelotto nabbed 12 strikes this season from a more withdrawn spot. Former Crew coach Sigi... Full Article at MLSnet - Major League Soccer
I'm proud of this team ... We played well against a very good Mexican team. They left everything out on the field and that's all I was asking for.
Columbus -- The first day of preseason for the Columbus Crew started on Tuesday with the same question as when the 2009 season unceremoniously ended with a first-round loss to Real Salt Lake: Where are the goals going to come from? Coach Robert... Full Article at MLSnet - Major League Soccer
Ohio -- The two-time-defending Supporters' Shield-winning Columbus Crew has announced the early portions of its 2010 preseason schedule, including a trip to Bradenton, Fla. Players will report back to Columbus by Sunday (Jan. 24) and the Crew's... Full Article at MLSnet - Major League Soccer

The red card changed everything ... We put ourselves into a situation where with 20 minutes to go we could have won the game. They were on their heels. They were scared of us.
I'm proud of this team ... We played well against a very good Mexican team. They left everything out on the field and that's all I was asking for.
Attitude is everything ... If we leave everything on the field like we did (last week), then good things can happen.
Because Sergio did not have a team since November, his fitness was not sharp when he came to us ... He needed a little more time to adjust, but he’s doing well.
We proved we can score goals against a good, organized team ... Overall, our fitness was pretty good.
Today was not the game for Sergio ... I thought we had to go with somebody else.
I give credit to the guy who took the shot ... That was amazing.
Obviously, it is the first game ... but we proved to ourselves that against one of the best teams in Mexico, we can push them and score two goals. That is a positive.
As forward he's on the field to score goals ... He found himself today in a good spot. He should have had one in the first half. With a better finish he could have had a hat trick.
Toluca has already played all those games, so whatever they've had to fix, they've fixed it already ... They won the championship. They are the best Mexican team. We're going to have to play very careful, and we're going to have to play our best game.
They're human beings. This thing is probably affecting them a little bit, but hopefully they're going to get that agreement with the league and we're going to focus on playing soccer
He has been in the right place at the right time and his finishing is clean
He's very powerful and really can change a game for you ... I wouldn't call him a project. If he can win a spot, he is going to give a lot of competition to the guys we have.
He has some skills ... He's a very good soccer player. Did I draft a starter? I don't think so, but he can surprise a few people.
The guys who are playing up front have to step up ... They have to score more goals. Between Jason Garey, Lenhart and Alejandro Moreno they scored 11 goals. There has to be more.
It's another year. Guys are getting mature so maybe this year is going to be somebody's best so we're going to have to put them on the field ... You're talking, for example, of Robbie Rogers -- 2008 was completely different than 2009. We're looking again for 2008.
It was a long process, but we're very happy to be able to re-sign Guillermo for this season ... He's obviously been a very good player for this team and I'm glad we got him signed in time for the start of preseason camp.
I think it was a pretty successful draft for us
He was one of the best players (at the MLS combine) ... He took charge. He wasn't afraid of the ball. He wanted to touch the ball and was trying to do something with it. Most of the things he did, they worked. . . . He has time to adjust to the team, and he's going to stay with us for a while.
