I've watched a new generation of BLM employees come on ... I really feel good about the new folks.
I am sad to see him go because I believe he was a very good local representative for the BLM
We can't judge the effect of this week's decision on our Federal mining claims until the Bureau of Land Management clarifies the issues of 'valid existing rights' which could exclude some mineral claims from the effect of the withdrawal. We believe that our exploration and development efforts have enhan...
Grazing is something they have more data on than any other subject. Regional scale data [from the BLM] has just been published by the US Geological Survey. The notion that they don’t have enough information is both laughable and untrue.
Grazing is considered a resource within the agency and with a group of stakeholders and there are litigation worries. BLM fears litigation may put a stop to future REAs, but he wants to get through the mine field and do something meaningful.
There just not enough manpower in the BLM to make sure these horses are not stolen and trucked off
BLM not only decided they weren't going to look at grazing as a change agent even though there's a massive amount of grazing going on those public lands, but even went further and said grazing information could only be reported in an undistinguished lump where you had to put all ungulates together
This is, from what we can tell, the biggest scientific effort ever undertaken by the BLM. And they've got it all wrong
Grazing is one of the few ‘change agents' within the agency's mandate to manage, suggesting that BLM only wants analysis on what it cannot control.
This is one of the screwiest things I have ever heard of. BLM is taking the peculiar position that it can no longer distinguish the landscape imprint of antelope from that of herds of cattle
What we’re doing is we’re taking a deeper dive to see how we can bring the functions together to do a better job at both OSM and BLM ... Angie's extensive experience in public service and public land management will be a tremendous asset to BLM California ... Her enthusiasm and expertise will significantly contribute to the management of our public lands.
We’re kind of used to getting beat up about this ... Most BLM land is managed for more than one use, so we are inherently ticking somebody off about something.
Based on feedback that members of the [advisory committee] have provided the BLM on the draft policy guidance, I am directing that the BLM take no further action to develop or implement the policy
To have some huge construction traffic going by the Blue Diamond community, there's lots of activity there, and it's not in the best interest of the population ... He bought the land. He had a due diligence period. He still needs access from BLM, which he does not have at this time. It's putting the car...
By facilitating access, multiple use and safe activities on public lands, the Bureau of Land Management helps ensure that the vast majority of the 245 million acres it oversees are open and remain open to recreational shooting
Closing areas where risks are high may reduce shooting related conflicts, and may also reduce legal claims against the BLM for shooting-related injuries or damages
As the West has become more populated, recreational shooters now often find themselves in conflict with other public lands users, and the BLM is frequently called on to mediate these conflicts
states have enjoyed and benefited from a fairly good working relationship with OSM regional and field offices and we are hopeful this can be maintained. In some respects, it has taken the better part of 30 years to achieve the working relationship we currently have ... BLM is not likely to possess this ...
The enforcement and regulatory functions of the OSM would remain separate from BLM's leasing activities ... The focus of the consolidation is on those OSM and BLM functions that are complementary, including environmental restoration activities and administrative support functions.
