View Photo »That was huge ... Obviously, Hector hasn't had the start that he wanted. He has really good stuff. I think he needs to take a deep breath and relax and he'll be fine. Reed has been great for us. It's good for him to come in in a pressure situation and get the job done.
I'm glad to debate here at Safeco Field. Iwakuma said the long wait to pitch didn't frustrate him, because he was able to work on things in the bullpen. But giving up the homer to Adam Dunn did. If I didn't give up the homer, we had a (better) chance to win
He is so good, man, especially when he's pounding the strike zone like he did ... He definitely shut us down, for sure.
Paul Konerko is one of the best hitters in baseball. You know Adam Dunn is going to do a lot better than he did last year. He had a couple hits today. This is a good team. [Alexei] Ramirez is one of the best shortstops in the league. This is a real good team. [A.J.] Pierzynski is one of the best catcher...
It's good ... This is kind of what I expect to do.
Do you know the guy doesn’t really like baseball that much? Do you know the guy doesn’t have a passion to play the game that much? How much do you know about the player? There’s a reason why you’re attracted to some players and there’s a reason why you’re not attracted to some players. I don’t think you...
He's got a good splitty, and I was just trying to get something to where the infield was in to where I could get the ball in the air and I definitely didn't want to chase anything ... I just got a pitch I could get in the air and it happened to go out.
We needed to win this game today ... I definitely didn't want to chase anything — just got a pitch that I could get in the air and it happened to go out.
You just gotta keep reminding them that they are starting in the big leagues for a reason
It’s one of those things where, if we were able to flip that switch on so-called contract years, that wouldn’t make so much sense
With me, my personality, I’m pretty (hyper)
That was the thing: I really like being on the bench, and I don’t like being in the clubhouse
I've felt good since day 1 of spring training ... I know I'm capable of driving in runs.
It's easy to get hits without tension ... It's easy to get hits with nobody on. But when you know they're going to be pitching a lot tougher than normal, you have to bear down a little bit and have a more solid plan. And it's doesn't hurt to have Paul (Konerko) hitting behind you as well.
I feel good, getting myself in good hitter's counts ... I just haven't been able to make them pay when I get in those good hitter's counts. It's a work in progress.
Whenever you get a guy like him you have to score early because he is a workhorse, those guys only get better ... Usually your best opportunity to get some runs if any are early and we were able to do that.
There are guys that are home run hitters and there are guys that are great hitters ... He's a great hitter that is going to have 400-plus home runs. That's pretty amazing.
I've been putting up with that for a year now, facing guys I haven't seen
Apparently it's something I'm doing against them that's not working
I thought it was kind of crazy, but, when we started doing it, I started feeling . getting my balance back and stuff like that
I don’t ever get into that because it’s a lose-lose situation
Really just trying not to pull the ball
That's a huge part of my game
Last year didn't change me as a person ... The best thing it did was, you kind of realized how other people, the people you are surrounding yourself with, are they in it for the right reason or not? That was probably the best thing I learned.
He's got that fine line between player -- because he's not far removed from that -- and manager
