View Photo »Learned a ton from coach McCarthy ... It was such a change for me, going from what I did in college, the system that I ran in college, to an NFL playbook and the changes that come with that.
I think the smartest thing for us to do continuing to go forward is not to take all of training camp, not to take all of what we have gone into this season doing, and just throw it out and say we're going to go to shotgun ... I think the smartest thing for us to do is to continue to open it up as Alex S...
That was the biggest game up to this point ... And next week -- that'll be the biggest game. It's kind of how the NFL goes. It's a long season, and every game is important. I think the important thing about tonight was getting back on the right track.
There is no question right now Aaron Rodgers is taking great satisfaction in knowing, OK, I like Alex Smith ... He's a good guy. But I should have been the first pick in the draft, because he is playing at an all-pro level right now. This guy is on pace for a better than 30 touchdown season. He deserves...
These people are definitely passionate about their football team ... We're up like 28-7, Donovan gets sacked and they start booing. Hey, that's Philadelphia.
Alex Smith has done some good things, another athlete at the position ... He had a few interceptions last week but a couple of them were off deflections. His mobility causes you problems.
First and foremost, I want to win the game ... But it'll be good to go up against those guys. I spent my whole career there. I know everybody from top to bottom on that team. All I've known my whole career is Tampa. It'll be fun to get back at them a little bit and, more than anything, get the win.
Alex Smith is not the answer.
He is an incredibly smart football player ... I've compared him to Alex Smith and I still make that comparison with his ability to check himself out of protections and correct things based on what the defense is doing. He does a lot of things that aren't really visible.
As far as this upcoming week, in terms of quarterback, Alex Smith will be the quarterback
I feel that Alex Smith gives us the best chance to win, and to use the tools that we have going forward ... Alex really just kind of fits the bill in terms of doing the things that we need to get done.
As far as this upcoming week, Alex Smith will be the quarterback ... We wanted to make the decision based on who I feel gives us the best chance to win.
I feel that Alex Smith gives us the best chance to win
I wanted to make a decision based upon who gives us the best chance to win ... We feel that right now Alex Smith gives us the best chance.
He's not a household name ... If you asked the average football fan who's their quarterback, they'd probably say Alex Smith. But it's Shaun Hill. He's nothing flashy. He's not going to wow you. ... He doesn't have a lot of hype coming in. He's a journeyman. But he wins. He gets the job done.
John’s a good athlete ... He runs well. He’s big and really become a big, physical guy. He’s a pretty darn good athlete. You saw Urban run a little bit of that with Alex Smith at Utah. John Brantley’s a bigger, stronger guy than Alex Smith was.
We have a lot of option game. There are three keys to any (option) run. There is a give, or a pull and a keep, or a pull and a pitch. John can execute all of that. John is a good athlete. He runs well, he’s big, and has really become a big physical guy. You saw Urban run all of that out at Utah with Ale...
You've always got the ball in your hands, and seven times out of 10 you're throwing it. But it really doesn't help the guys going to the next level. You can see the evidence with the guy in San Francisco [Alex Smith] and with a guy as talented as Vince Young. There are problems when you have to get up u...
