This is not a time to be showing loyalty to team-mates or friends or people you know ... This is a time to be doing right for the game of cricket.
Should it happen again, room should be made for a 40-page, 10,524-word document that has become a sacred text within Australian cricket - the Argus report or, as Cricket Australia calls it, the Australian team performance review. As Andrew Strauss'...
Cook Picking through England's list of ODI captains since the turn of the century, one probably wouldn't have chosen Cook to be the first to land back-to-back centuries. Against the odds, though, Cook this week upstaged Andrew Strauss, Paul Collingwood,...

It's not easy to lead your country close to a decade. He became skipper when he was only 22 and has done a commendable job. Looks like a pretty good wicket. The incentive is probably to have first use of it and get a good score on the board
The spot-fixing stuff is something we're desperately keen to move on from ... What's happened before is water under the bridge and I hope both sides can play the game in the right spirit.
I will say we are trying to put the right team to win. That's always our philosophy
The first Test always sets the tone for the rest of the series, so the initial skirmishes are always important ... We’ve had a really good build-up. We’re pretty comfortable with what we think conditions will be like. But there’s always that element of the unknown when you haven’t played at a particular...
We just want to play cricket in a good atmosphere ... build good relations with the (England) team ... Whatever happens on the field, just prove your performance on the field and nothing else.
We haven’t thought about that, those sort of things if you start to think about that you are drifting to dangerous territory
There is a lot more awareness now on the back of what has happened over the past couple of years, but it is something we need to be always vigilant about ... Heavy schedules, both internationally and domestically, means there is always the opportunity for somebody to think a game is less important than ...
It took me by complete surprise when the allegations first came out, having not witnessed anything during my time with Middlesex ... But let’s not be arrogant and assume it’s not there. There has been an incident and if one has appeared there’s a fair chance there has been others.
I think it’s a good initiative from the ECB and I’d urge players to come forward ... We need to root it out if it is there, get it dealt with, and move on. If you want world cricket to be in good order you need to make sure your own house is clean first. I’ve no idea if the other players have got inform...
I will say we are trying to put the right team to win a game of cricket. That's always our philosophy
It will depend on the state of the wicket as always, so you always pick the team which you think gives you the right balance to win a Test and, if the wicket turns a hell of a lot, then obviously two spinners becomes an option
Given the history of the series between the two nations, it is important that we recognise our responsibilities. We want to make sure that things don't escalate into something more serious than what we do in every series
It's all about desire, motivation and hunger
The bowlers are excited by the challenge out here.
It's fantastic to see him back in England shirt again
Monty (Panesar) bowled exceptionally well (in the side game) and it’s fantastic to see him back, but you pick the side which fits the conditions and allows you to win and that’s all we will do tomorrow
He did not bowl yesterday but he will have a decent bowl today and we are confident he will play ... The medical team think it is nothing serious so we are pretty confident he will play.
I'm buoyed by what great support there is in this country for Test cricket but I'm also aware that in other parts of the world it's less so
A lot of teams below us will want to knock us off our perch.
We'll have to retain that desperate desire to improve if we are to stay on top
We all recognise that the next 12-18 months will be the biggest test we have had yet as a group ... It's a different mindset being the hunted rather than the hunters.
We all have to work hard to ensure players understand their responsibilities on and off the pitch
In a lot of ways in the past we've relied on Test cricket always being around
