We do have competition for places and last weekend was about two international victories at Murrayfield against Australia and at Netherdale against Tonga ... Australia was a very physical international and that is now history. This selection is about the management of our squad and giving players that p...
We've picked Hugo to start at stand-off because we believe he will do a good job for us there - he is a quality player with lots of experience who has been regularly operating as first receiver on attack for Stade Francais this season ... We believe we have picked a strong squad to face a competitive To...

Where Robbo [Andy Robinson, who beat Brewer in the race to become Scotland head coach] wants to take the team is that he wants to win and that means playing a bit of footy. Scotland are not going to win against New Zealand, Australia, South Africa purely by goalkicking, you have got to break these teams...
We are in control of whether we win or lose. We've got to put in a performance better than the one against Australia to beat Argentina. The work has already started on that
We've had Andy Robinson, Brian Ashton, now Martin Johnson. England have not had a coherent strategy since winning the World Cup. 'Let's make Andy Robinson our coach... oh no we got that wrong. Let's make Brian Ashton our coach... oh no we got that wrong. Let's make Martin Johnson our coach.'
I've said to the team that is the most courageous performance I've ever been involved in ... The amount of ball that we gave Australia to play with throughout the game and the courage that the players had to get up and keep knocking them over (was exceptional). We needed a bit of luck. I thought the guy...

We have to play with quicker ball ... Speed of ball and being able to play off the first receiver is an important part of how I coach. We were not able to really establish that last week. We have to ask more questions of how Australia defend. We have to do that in different ways, we were a bit one-dimen...
There's a lot of talent around at the moment and even my old country Scotland, under Andy Robinson, are capable of stepping up to the mark.

England is only one game ... Like all Test matches, I'm looking forward to it, but it's not going to be won by Martin Johnson or Andy Robinson. I looked at myself and thought: 'am I the right person to lead Scotland?' I believe I am, but it's not about me.
They are an impressive Australia team ... I know they will want to keep their unbeaten record. Scotland have not beaten them since 1982 and they are third in the world, so it is a tough challenge but we are in control and if we can make those improvements, I firmly believe we will win the game.

Leadership is not about one person ... It’s about developing a number of leaders. This year we are going to have two captains — Mike Blair and Chris Cusiter; two world-class players; two world-class people. What that enables me to do is that whichever is selected will lead the team — but off the pitch t...
Phil [Godman] is starting at 10. Chris [Paterson] is covering and I want him to be playing that position in training. I think Godman is the right player to lead Scotland as fly half, so I’m very comfortable with the decision. I like competition, and there is competition in the squad, but it’s also good ...
My thinking on that is Phil Godman will play at 10 and Chris Paterson will cover for that ... There are certain players in my mind who are nailed on, Alasdair Strokosch is one of them, Graeme Morrison as well, he will start at inside centre.

I think Phil is the right player to lead Scotland as a fly-half, so I’m very comfortable in that decision ... I like competition in the squad but I think it’s also good to know who you’re going to pick as well. And in my mind I know I want to pick Phil at fly-half.
I believe that Phil Godman is an outstanding fly-half and he's going to be starting at 10 for Scotland.
I understand why, when England are losing, people make comments ... Ultimately, I was responsible. But there's a level you go to. I'm not going to mention them by name, but some people overstepped the mark in what they said and that had implications for my family. That was out of order.
