Baylor does a few things differently, but it (Houston) is basically Art Briles’ offense ... It’s a good offense, and it really makes you work. He’s a good football coach, and I have a lot of respect for him. You’d better be ready to play and ready to adjust during the game.
ARLINGTON – What seemed like a feel-good gesture by Baylor coach Art Briles became much more Saturday. Briles opted to start senior Blake Szymanski for his final game, instead of freshman Nick Florence. Full Article at Dallas Morning News

Everyone knows how good Texas Tech is on offense, but the thing that’s been a little overlooked is that they’re a really good defensive team, and have been for three or four years ... We know we’ve got our work cut out for us on both sides of the ball.
Much kudos to Houston for its upset of Oklahoma State — if it was an upset. Give former athletic director Dave Maggard huge props for having hired Kevin Sumlin (from Oklahoma) and Art Briles before that. It says here, if you take a snapshot right this second, Houston is the second-best college football ...
We will be ready to roll [heading into the game against Texas Tech] ... To us, this is our bowl game. We are playing at a neutral site and it is going to be a great atmosphere with a chance for our seniors to go out with a good taste in their mouth. That is our purpose and that is our plan because we wa...
Our schedule is probably as tough as anybody will have in the FCS ... You go to Houston and you go to a much-improved Baylor team. Art Briles has done a great job. They're an up-and-coming Big 12 team.
That game wasn’t representative of our football team ... That will be our driving force going into the final game. I’ve talked to the team about finishing strong and keeping the same attitude and belief we’ve had all year. I don’t see that changing heading into the Texas Tech game.
I apologize to them for not letting them fulfill their dream ... They did everything we’ve asked them to do since we stepped off the field at Texas Tech last year. They put a lot of sweat, effort and attitude into this for the team and the university.
It certainly doesn’t hurt to have won a Big 12 road game ... The atmosphere and environment (at Kyle Field) shouldn’t affect us because we’ve played in some good venues. But we know A&M is always a big game whether it’s home or away, and we’ll have to play well to win.
We’ve done enough to set ourselves up for a good end result ... Now, we just need to go to Texas A&M and take care of business. It (a bowl game) has always been in the back of our minds, but the driving force is just to keep winning, and that gives us hope.
The thing I’m really proud about Kendall, especially the last couple of weeks, is I think he’s really learned how to become a great teammate ... He’s not ever had to do that, quite honestly, growing up in Pittsburg, Texas, where he was the team. Then coming in here last year and everything happening rea...
Would we like to run the ball better? ... Sure, because it allows you to control the tempo and it creates more lanes for throwing the ball. But not many teams have run the ball well against Texas. You can’t just say you’re going to keep running the ball. You can’t let pride get in the way of intelligenc...
We’ve got to get to a point where it’s not unexpected, but expected ... It’s our job as coaches to get our program up to that level. But from where we’re at right now, it (beating Missouri) was a very gratifying win and much needed.
I asked Clifton why he never told me ... He said he just didn’t want to say anything about it, and that’s what I respect about him quite honestly. His dad played 13 years in the NFL, but to me he’s Clifton Odom. That’s how we know him, and that’s how it ought to be.
We need to be more productive early in the game ... I think we can definitely build on a little bit of momentum we created in the second half against Nebraska. Going into the Missouri game, I think we’ll have a little better feeling walking into the stadium that we possibly might not have had otherwise....

Going into the Missouri game, I think we’ll have a little better feeling walking into the stadium that we possibly might not have had otherwise....
Gabbert is a big, strong-armed guy who’s finally gotten healthy ... He looked back to form against Colorado like he was earlier in the season. He’s agile and has a rocket arm and can move.
We gave ourselves a chance to win, first and foremost ... We weren’t intimidated, and we felt like we were going to win. We feel like we’re on the same level as all of the Big 12, but what we have to do now is make plays when the opportunity arises.
Nebraska is a really good football team; their story and program everyone knows and they’re certainly no exception this year ... They’ve played really well at times, had some unfortunate things happen along the way in a couple games, but they’re a really strong, well-coached football team. There is no d...
You hate to single out guys, but Suh is as good as anyone in America ... He plays with a lot of passion, effort, confidence and ability. Their front four is as good as anyone we’ll see this year. There are a lot of good defenses in the Big 12 and across the nation, and Nebraska really does a good job.
Iowa State is a good team, and that needs to be understood first and foremost ... But we just didn’t take control of the momentum early, and it came back to bite us. When they kept controlling the ball, that’s when I knew it was bad.
They are fast-paced, very similar to a lot of teams in the Big 12 on how they do it. They keep you off balance from a defensive standpoint and they are doing it with experienced people
As far as trying to take the Iowa State crowd out, yeah we have to do it
As far as taking the Iowa State crowd out, we’ve got to do it ... They’re right on you there, it’s a tight stadium and they put a lot of people in it. ... It’ll be an exciting time. It’s a good chance for us to grow as a team, and that’s what we’re doing. We’re growing as a football team.
Their scheme is good, and they do fast-paced things similar to a lot of teams in the Big 12 ... They keep you off-balance, and they are doing it with experienced people. Arnaud is a big, strong kid who runs and throws well. He’s playing with a lot of confidence. Robinson is a dangerous guy who is shifty...
