He's been in the playoffs eight of his 12 years. Between Baron Davis and Marcus Camby you have 110 games of playoff experience. Our goal is to get back in the playoffs and be competing and we wanted players with experience doing just that.
It appeared to be an ideal fit for him over the summer after Baron Davis's absence ... Marcus has not had sustained opportunities. It's not his intention to leave, but it's important that he plays.
We talked about the trade in the summer and he was excited about it then ... We talked about it today and he's very happy it's happened. He thinks the Clippers have a good core of players. He's excited to play with Baron Davis, Chris Kaman and Marcus Camby.
Wait a second – how's he going to get the ball playing alongside Baron Davis?
It's a great experience to come out there and compete with people you grew up watching like Baron Davis, a great guard, and matching up with him ... I never pictured [starting] because they have a great point guard in Tony Parker and you still have a great, veteran point guard in Jacques Vaughn. It's coach's decision and he throws me out there and the only thing I can do is do the best I can do.
I talked to him a lot about Magic Johnson, and how he worked within a system to lift everyone up around him ... I am convinced Baron is that same type of player.
We had studied Baron, sure, and we loved his ability and his leadership ... We also knew he loved to win, and that would be more important to him than anything.
