I knew Ben was going to be an asset this season because he'd be able to teach our bigs ... I never imagined he could have this kind of impact on the court. This is the old Ben Wallace again.
I appreciate everything Detroit did for me and my family ... They gave me an opportunity to make a name for myself and we had an opportunity to win a championship together.
Even though Ben Wallace was getting a lot of rebounds, they came off the bench with Kwame Brown [seven points, eight rebounds] and [Jason] Maxiell and that's when they really got it going off the glass. I just thought if we could get Sammy coming in to match with those guys coming off the bench . . .
Our recommendations might make even the worst free-throw shooters -- you know who you are, Shaquille O'Neal and Ben Wallace -- break 60 percent from the free-throw line ... A little bit of physics and a lot of practice can make everyone a better shooter from the free-throw line.
However the minutes shake out between Chris Wilcox, Kwame Brown and Ben Wallace, they won’t be as good as Rasheed Wallace. But Sheed wasn’t that great last year. He looked old and disinterested, so the drop here won’t be too steep.
Who in the world were Ben Wallace and Chucky Atkins?
It’s not always about scoring the ball ... Sometimes it’s about leading the league in rebounding or the best defensive player in the league that helps you make an All-Star team. I remember Ben Wallace making a few that way.
They're tough, definitely ... They still have Rip there, Stuckey is one of the up-and-coming guards in this league, Ben Wallace is back, Ben Gordon, Kwame Brown, they've got some towers, too. It's not about them, though, it's about us. We have to go out there and do what we have to do to win the game.
At the end of the day, statwise, I was the best free agent that summer ... But Ben Wallace got paid more than me, before me.
I've always said I could score on Ben Wallace in a game of 1-on-1 ... However, this was during his heyday and when I was 21. Now that I'm 26, and in my prime, and his talent is dwindling, I actually believe it.
