LAWRENCE -- Last season, Bill Self invested a lot of energy in contrasting his team to the team that won the national title. This was primarily because the 2008 team and the 2009 team were not similar in any significant way. Full Article at CJOnline

The whole point of the game was meant to be No. 1 versus No. 2 in the country ... It was supposed to be John Calipari against Bill Self, in a rematch of the 2008 Championship game. Then things went the way they did, and the game has turned into Memphis against Kansas.
I have to say that this list turned into a bigger challenge than I originally thought. Upon researching some of these coaches' accomplishments there are also others who could very easily have made it on this list for me. Full Article at Associated Content

That ball moved ... I told our team this the other day: We played Nebraska in '08. I remember this vividly. There's 10 minutes left in the game, and Mario (Chalmers) hadn't taken a shot. This is our most clutch guy. I told Mario, 'Hey, look to score.' He said, 'Coach, it's not me tonight.' That was the ...
Barnes has very few, if any, limitations on the court. He (Barnes) has a smooth stroke from the outside, can put the ball on the floor and score off the bounce, can pull-up for the midrange jumper or post up a smaller defender ... There’s a reason big-time programs like Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, UCL...
Mark and I have a good relationship ... We talk whenever there are things going on. Right now, from my perspective, I don’t know if it’s the time to do that. He’s got a job right now, and his job is to try to beat Texas. When it slows down a little, I’m sure we’ll visit.
I've learned to appreciate the history and great tradition here ... There's been some good coaches from Lon Kruger to Bill Self and hopefully myself. We've had a pretty nice run here, some Big Ten championships, a Final Four run, and I hope it continues. The one missing link is that they haven't been cr...
To play in front of a full house in St. Louis is going to be great for our fans and program
No [in-home visit] was greater than the other ... Most of the [interactions with] schools, honestly, have [gone] very well. I haven’t had anything bad to say for any of the visits we have encountered so far. ... I guess one coach I was surprised by would have to be [Kansas’] Bill Self. He was just real ...
Playing Memphis will remind our fans of a special time for us and our program
When Cal was (at Memphis), it seemed like for most of the kids we recruited it came down to us and Memphis with a lot of them ... He tries to go after the best guys, and we're trying to go after the best guys.
It's a crazy world ... We've gone head to head with coach Calipari and his staff many times and will continue to go head to head with Kentucky. And now that (Memphis coach) Josh (Pastner) and his staff are in place, they'll recruit at a national level also. It seems to me we're recruiting the right guys...

I thought Josh read that exactly the way I’d written it ... Cal (former coach John Calipari) may be gone, but who has had a better recruiting class (so far for 2010) based on commitments than what Josh has done? They will be right back with a national top-five, top-10 ranking by next year. That’s pretty...
No. ‘Shady’ was. We’ve not had anybody close to that ... Shady gave Florida 20 or 18 (points) in his third college game. He did it against (Al) Horford and (Joaquim) Noah out of the chute. I think Thomas will definitely be one of the best big guys we recruited, but ‘Shady’ was at a different level.
What that means is Kansas State is good
Cole could be the best big man Kansas has had since Wilt (Chamberlain) ... That’s a pretty big statement for 50-plus years. But if you start to think about the true big man, Danny Manning wasn’t a center and Raef LaFrentz wasn’t a center. Cole knows who he is.

We've got a lot of good players, and I think it's a good problem to have ... I also think this: We can't keep all our good players happy if everybody plays. But if you redshirt a couple that are (future) starters at Kansas, it's probably a pretty good trade off.
We can't keep all our good players happy and give everybody a place ... If you were to redshirt a couple that are (eventual) starters at Kansas, that's not bad, either.
I believe this is our league’s year ... I don’t think we’ll be talking about hopefully getting six in the (NCAA) tournament this March. It’ll be very disappointing to everybody if we do not have six to eight teams come March in the tournament.
There are some similarities, but that North Carolina team had been through a lot more experiences than our guys have ... The North Carolina team had been through Final Fours, had been to Elite Eights, had had some heartache, been through some tough times. I don't know that this group has been through to...

Anybody notice Elijah Johnson looks a lot like Eddie Murphy out there? ... I hope for our sake Jeff Withey can play ball better than he dances. I thought the highlight of the dance was the seniors. I thought Mario acted like he knew what he was doing.
If anyone says this happens at Kansas, I can't be upset ... But if anyone says that this stuff doesn't go on at other schools, they don't get it. This isn't a team issue; it's a society issue.
This is a night we've been looking forward to personally since losing to Michigan State in Indianapolis ... We worked hard in the offseason and we've come back stronger and faster. We're definitely going to get back to Indianapolis.
