Comedian Bob Newhart performs at a benefit at the Bushnell Center for Performing Arts in Hartford Conn., on May 24, 2007 .The dead-pan comic and sit-com star was one of three finalists announced Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, for the Thurber Prize for American Humor, a $5,000 literary honor named for the famed author and humorist James Thurber. The winner will be announced this fall.
