You can build a team any way you want. It's free enterprise, right? The Yankees have the money. We got rid of (Jason) Giambi's salary and (Mike) Mussina's salary and (Bobby) Abreu's salary. We can afford all these guys.

The Yankees indeed shed $88.5 million from their books (included in that total — $23.4 million on Jason Giambi, $16 million on Bobby Abreu, and $11 million to both Mike Mussina and Carl Pavano), and even with the Teixeira contract, they expect their payroll to fall below $200 million.
So, again, if I were looking for a Left Handed batter, I would spend my money on Bobby Abreu before I would on Dunn.
This was a no-brainer for us ... We haven't had a player with a body mass index this high since we lost David Wells and it's no coincidence that we haven't won a world series since. It's about time we got another fat slob in our clubhouse. We thought we were getting one when we acquired Bobby Abreu but it turned out he wasn't really that fat he just had a huge head. God, I hope his mom had a c-section.
Bobby Abreu projects as a five- or six-win player, Pettitte a bit below that.
After the season, in Jason Giambi, Mike Mussina, Bobby Abreu, Carl Pavano and Andy Pettitte, the Yankees erased more than $70 million from their payroll. They are moving into a new stadium. They quite literally have cash to burn, even in these economic times.
There’s some great talent available, but remember that other teams can start talking to our players, too. Guys like Jason Giambi and Bobby Abreu played hard and won games for us ... I know the decision makers can’t get emotional about ballplayers, but we certainly can.
Moore named three free agent bats he ranked above Mike Jacobs: Mark Teixeira, Manny Ramirez, and Bobby Abreu.
You compare that to what the top potential four hitters in the market may cost -- in Manny Ramirez, Mark Teixeira, Bobby Abreu and maybe Raul Ibanez -- and you look at the other hitters that might be available to us. In our opinion, Mike Jacobs is the best guy that we can possibly get
Bobby Abreu — The Yankees. Perrotto thinks Bob will return to the Bronx. Depending on years/dollars, I’m not against this move. He’s better than Xavier Nady.
14. Bobby Abreu - Cubs. This would be a bad idea, Im sure Abreu would cost 3yrs 12mm or so, and thats bad money spent for a left handed DeRosa... Except, having a right-handed loaded line-up was one of the biggest reasons the cubs tanked this postseason. A 2-3-4-5 of Lee, Ramirez, Abreu, and Soriano would fit nice
