I am very excited about the section this year as we have some fabulous stars coming for children's films, including Brendan Fraser and the child star Eliza Bennett. Inkheart is definitely worth a watch by kids, parents and adults alike.
I was mucking around with these kids and there was a crowd and someone said, 'That's a movie star'. Everyone else was all over Rob: 'You're awesome, the script is awesome'. I was polite when I met him, but I didn't go nuts.
At the screen test in America I ended up playing basketball with these kids, instead of sucking up to Rob Cohen
Some of the lines relied on a fantasy element and a complete lack of reality. It was a new game for me ... You've got to embrace it and be big. I try to be as subtle as possible, but here I had to be vibrant and powerful. Now I realise you have to think about the kids, because it's made for them. It has to be big. Don't try to be a serious actor.
He's a glorified version of a man, a movie man ... That gives you the liberty not to take the role that seriously, otherwise you take yourself too seriously and the audience don't feel comfortable, because they don't know if they have permission to laugh at you. You have to give it to them.
