I think maybe one less [wicket] would have been ideal, preferably mine. But I think it's a par day on that wicket ... We have got some really good players to come with Dan [Vettori] and Franky [James Franklin], and with Jesse and Baz [Brendon McCullum] there we're looking for 400-plus.
I am one of those who would constantly push players to get better. Jesse [Ryder] played very well in the first innings [in the second Test] with Brendon McCullum and that set us up for a score. I am always asking more of them but understanding at the same time that they are quite an inexperienced group, apart from Brendon, who has only played a few Test matches in the top five.
I am a Kolkata Knight Rider, so be it Sourav (Ganguly), Ajantha (Mendis) or (Brendon) McCullum... it makes me happy when any of our players do well. We have already started our next season preparation (in Australia), and we are upbeat about our good show next season
Yes, it was bit disappointing that I played only eight matches and I bowled only one over, that too to Brendon McCullum during his century knock (in the inaugural match at Bangalore). But then, there were other top foreign players like Dale Steyn, Shivnaraine Chanderpaul, Mark Boucher and Jacques Kallis. So, I guess, it was difficult for me to be fitted in. Also, I didn't perform that well
I can think of seven or eight guys who have gone to the ICL and that takes our whole depth out of the country ... It's disappointing, when you're playing for the Black Caps, you want your best team playing at all time.
He's going to be a big loss. We've experienced in the past guys like Shane Bond being injured before, we're used to experiencing that. With Jacob out the rest of us have to step up.
They're more vulnerable but they're still by far and away the best team in the world ... They lost one series and they're being ridiculed in the paper for it, but in our minds they're still by far and away the best team.
We're at long odds but also with nothing to lose ... You'll probably see guys play with a lot less fear than what we have done in the past. When you are such rank outsiders you can almost throw a little bit more caution to the wind. With fewer battle scars in our squad than what we had in the past, that's pretty exciting as well. Guys aren't as fearful of the Australian team because we haven't got the experience and played them a lot as a team.
