There was an at-bat against Brian Bannister in Kansas City at the start of the trip where I singled ... Something clicked right there.
Today is really all about Brian Bannister -- a complete game, no earned runs, faced four over the minimum ... A pretty good day. Banny is what he is. He's a very good pitcher in the purest sense of the word 'pitch.' He makes and mixes his pitches very well. He's not afraid with sometimes a below-average fastball, but it's got some life to it. At times, it comes out as average when he needs a little extra. He's very picky about when he uses that little extra.
I saw the Brian Bannister that everyone had reported and that I saw on video ... Like I said in Spring Training, I knew it was in there, but I told Banny that I'd sure appreciate seeing it before the season started.
Luckily, I got through my game and Banny [Brian Bannister] and Zack [Greinke] and everybody else who grabbed the ball and got in the game did an unbelievable job
This is like Fenway. I've never pitched here ... I was looking forward to it, because it's the last year of this historic stadium. I got to pitch across the river [Shea Stadium] for a while, and I just always wanted to have a chance before both stadiums came down to be a part of history. It'll be nice to have pitched in both New York parks before they go. They'll be gone forever.
