View Photo »Agents are calling me but I haven't returned their calls ... I haven't talked to agents about players. I saw Arn Tellem in Chicago (at the GM meetings) but I told him we had to wait to see about payroll.
Y’know, that’s something I talked to Brian Cashman briefly about [yesterday] and I want to talk to him about it more [today], but, I think I will ... I’ve got to talk to Shelly Duncan to see if he allows me to wear it. I think I’m gonna make a number change.
They won another World Series three years later, didn't they? ... The job is the job. You've got to do what's best for the franchise and what you think is right. That's what you get paid to do. You can't have five million general managers dictating what you do.
That’s something I talked to [general manager] Brian Cashman about briefly [Thursday], and we’ll talk more [today]
Friday was the parade. Saturday and Sunday was quiet time, and today felt like a full day of traveling, even though Chicago is not far ... We'll be in catch-up mode. The last thing you want to do is do something quick. I really want to make sure I take our time, sit down, and have our discussions with a...
As a player, it's what you dream about ever since you were a little boy. As a manager you still have that joy, but the joy is for other people ... and the behind-the-scenes work that it takes. It starts with the Boss and his family and Brian Cashman
I don't see anything happening here in Chicago
There’s this new-fangled OPS stat, now. I think OPS is short for operators, like GMs and managers. For example, Joe Girardi and Brian Cashman are two of the Yankees most important OPS.
I just know that I don’t see anything happening here in Chicago in the next three days
I had talked after his start Wednesday I wasn't going to use him ... But after sitting down and discussing it with our trainer a little bit, talking to [GM Brian Cashman] and [pitching coach Dave Eiland], we might use him for an inning or a couple hitters just to see how he reacts.
He has been a remarkable player ... When he came over from Japan, he ended with a championship. I'm glad he has got one with us too now.
It gives Brian Cashman and Joe Girardi the perfect opportunity to build up that lockdown bull pen the Yankees will need to win their 27th world championship.
Basically, you have got to get after it ... It pretty much comes pretty quick. I'll be in Chicago with the other GMs on Monday.
We'll get together and have our meeting, which we haven't done yet, and line the board up and make the best decisions we think are right for us and hope they work ... But he's been a remarkable player for us and we're proud of him. When he came over from Japan, he ended with a championship, and I'm glad...
A guy we gave very little money to, who came out of a small village in Panama and moved to the big city without ever once stumbling or losing his footing. For him to do what he did for as long as he has ... is incredible.
It's always been all about trying to win a World Series ... It's very special in that we just opened up a brand new ballpark, and considering all the history we left behind in the old place, it's nice to open this one with a trip to the World Series. Hopefully we can finish it off with a championship.

We're not where we're at without what they've brought to the table both on and off the field ... It's not easy to come in here and have success on big contracts. ... It transformed our season into a World Series opportunity.
I knew we had a championship-caliber team and we still obviously have that ... You can't just have that. You have to play like it when it counts. So far, we've done enough of that to get us to this point. Hopefully Joe Girardi and the staff can find a way to get the rest out of this group.
I'm not disappointed ... We don't get to where we are without what Phil Hughes did, and what Dave Robertson did, and what Joba did. And we signed Sabathia and Burnett to do what they did.
I think this team is one of our better teams we’ve had in awhile ... But I also think Anaheim is running out a much improved team too. Clearly, they were able to beat Boston and they haven’t been able to do that before. They’re more equipped. We’re more equipped.

Their GMs, whether it's (former) Terry Ryan or Billy Smith, know when to pull the trigger, and they're usually pulling the rabbit out of the hat and laughing at their opponent after they do it ... They're class acts. That franchise is a very efficient model that everybody kind of looks to. Whether you'r...
They’ve had long-ball issues. It’s something that was missing from their end a little bit not that they’ve ever had a problem with us but I think they can basically beat you in a number of different ways. So they’re a very dangerous team. Hey, to beat Boston you have to be a dangerous team.
This team is deeper in pitching, this team is deeper on the bench, this team is deeper in the bullpen, this team is deeper offensively and we're healthy right now ... The teams we had with Joe Torre were well-prepared, and they were quality. But this team, I think, we're a stronger team. We've got front...
