Winning the World Series is a rare moment and I wanted to do something special to celebrate our incredible win
It's an honor for me to win a championship with those guys. Hey there, Babe and Yogi, Mr. October and Joltin' Joe - you've got company. Teixeira, CC Sabathia and a new generation of Yankees have procured their place in pinstriped lore. We made it look easy, but it wasn't easy
They have an American League lineup and you have to battle
AJ Burnett, CC Sabathia, and Andy Pettitte have combined to throw over 100,000 major league pitches, and the Yankees are asking them to skip one single off day in order to throw just a few more. If these pitchers or so finicky, tempermental, and frail that they can’t handle occasionally pitching on thre...
I kind of like it because I hate to throw bullpen (sessions) ... So I don't have to throw a bullpen when I throw on three days' rest. I take the next day off and I throw two flat grounds. I started doing that in Milwaukee last year and I did it the time before in the ALCS (for Cleveland).
You probably say, well, CC Sabathia can do it
I'm excited ... I took a good round of BP today, so I'll try to start hitting the ball the other way tomorrow and see what happens.
Pray that CC Sabathia ['07] or Cliff Lee ['08] win this year ... We've already got theirs.
This is the World Series, so the motivation is: Go out and win a ring
You probably say, well, CC Sabathia can do it, (but) he's done it before and it's worked pretty good for him, although we banged him up pretty good last year (when Sabathia pitched for Milwaukee in the 2008 postseason)
I think they're very similar lineups ... These guys in our clubhouse swing the bat. I've been saying that all year. I'm pretty sure that's the same way it's been in Philly. They're a tough lineup to deal with, just basically an American League lineup. It's just going to be a fun series.
You look at this time of year, you're going to see a good pitcher every night ... Usually the two teams that get to this point have good starters all the way throughout. We had this in mind when we went and got both of them (CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett, New York's Game 1 and 2 starters, respectively). ...
It's just weird, because a couple of years ago we were talking about maybe pitching in a World Series together ... Now we're in different clubhouses. It's just a little weird, but it'll be fun.
Do you think that might have something to do with going to the store and buying CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett and Mark Teixeira?
It's weird because a couple years ago we were talking about maybe pitching in a World Series together, and now, we're in different clubhouses
We wouldn't be here if we didn't have CC Sabathia ... When you have a No. 1 [starter] and you have great pitching, it affects your defence, it affects your offence, it affects your approach and patience at the plate. Without him, we're not here.
It’s just weird ... because a couple of years ago, (Lee and I) were talking about maybe pitching in a World Series together. Now, we’re in different clubhouses. It’s just a little weird, but it’ll be fun.
Phils can't overcome CC Sabathia and Andy Pettitte.
A couple years ago we were talking about maybe pitching in a World Series together, now we’re in different clubhouses
We battled ... But we couldn't beat that payroll. Plus, in the eighth, we gave it away. You've got CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett, who's got some of the nastiest stuff in the league. And behind that, you got Andy Pettitte, who's got more playoff experience than anyone. They're the best. We got beat by the...
This is really weird ... We opened up this stadium, and that was pretty cool. Just a couple of years ago we were talking about maybe playing in the World Series together. Now, we're in different clubhouses. It's just a little weird, but it'll be fun.
The difference [from recent years] was that we had big players play big for us. Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia and Mariano ... We've had big players do big things.
This feels good ... Being up 3-1 in ’07 feeling like we had a chance to go to the World Series and having that taken away from you, it feels good now.
