I just had the feeling that this was the movie where we could do more score than ever before

And a Peter Gabriel song is forever redefined. (Note: Out of context this scene is so sappy it'll give you a cavity, but in context, I'm man-mush. Oh, Cameron Crowe, where have you gone?) Delilah Rene, the Queen of Sappy Love Songs Katie Baker: You...

I was a big Cameron Crowe fan, and a huge Hal Ashby fan. And in the nineties, there was the Sundance moment that gave birth to Alexander Payne and Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson and Quentin and Sofia, who made me want to be a director, but they’re coming three generations after Wilder.
Filled with this trademark patter, distinct style and a tone and mood that all his his own, the film isn't for everyone, but for those willing to go along for the ride, it's worth the watch. Starring Greta Gerwig, Analeigh Tipton, Megalyn Echikunwoke...

He just said, no ... That he shuts his eyes and gets lost in the musical world.
It's one of those movies that sounds like it could be the worst Disney movie ever ... My pitch for it normally is, 'So this guy buys a broken-down zoo and in the course of rebuilding the zoo look, Cameron Crowe directed it.' ... So you go, OK, this could work.
The question was could he write stuff based on this movie and based on these characters as opposed to the huge canvas that he’d always written on in the past
I didn’t know the power of the animal on-screen
He is very private, very picky about the projects he does, so we're honored he did this score ... The soundtrack -- a first for us -- is pure score, with two new songs, a 52-minute soundscape that is a complete musical journey, meant to be listened to from beginning to end. It ends with the movie's end-...

I could already hear the music too. … That story came knocking in a big way, and it didn't go away. You wait for the zing, and the zing happened on 'We Bought a Zoo.'
He's, like, wide open to a thrilling new peak and searching for it ... There's nothing, 'Kid, this is how we did it with Clint' about it.
But it's not necessarily true. It's the nourishing thing that people crave. … People are going to go where they get characters that they remember. I don't think people are ever going to a place where they're like, 'I'm over stories about character and love.'
I knew talking on the phone to Emma that Benjamin Mee's real-life story had all the elements I love in storytelling: humor, great characters, love and an impossible dream
I'm standing out there for a scene in a junior high hallway with Matt Damon and Colin Ford. The way Matt was looking, I kept thinking about the Tom Petty song, 'Don't Come Around Here No More.' I just said, 'I've got to play it!' ... So I played the song during the next take. Matt Damon immediately soak...

We had many meetings where we talked about it ... And at the end, he couldn't say yes. It's a tough thing to play Marvin Gaye. He's a towering figure. … Who would want to be the guy who played Marvin and didn't nail it? Will isn't wrong; the guy who plays it should be a guy who tears into it and knows i...

It felt like a noble crusade.
Character comedy-drama is really hard to get made right now, and I think that's a statement that feeds on itself
I'll spend months working with an actor, and I think I spent four months with Ashton
