View Photo »I'm hoping this lets me focus more on the Cup car, lets me be a better Cup racer by maybe having more time during the race weekend to maybe hone the setups in ... I don't know how it will actually affect our performance but I do know my calendar is a lot more open and I'm able to breathe a little more. ...
I'll be honest, Carl Edwards I thought did an excellent job of going into Homestead, also ... With the fact that he hasn't won a championship, I thought he dealt with the pressure very well. I firmly believe that he's going to get one pretty soon here.
Once they said we could not run for the championship, I had already committed and Roush and the sponsors had already committed to running the full season
Tony was not going to quit. Period. Now, I knew Carl Edwards wasn't going to lay down. But I'm pretty certain Carl Edwards didn't know Tony's will. Come hell or high water, Tony was winning the whole thing.
At the end of the day, NASCAR walks a fine line of ... making the cars hard enough to drive that they're not in a giant dangerous pack and that people aren't super aggressive with them
Tony was not going to quit. Period. Now, I knew Carl Edwards wasn't going to lay down. But I'm pretty certain Carl Edwards didn't know Tony's will. Come hell or high water, Tony was winning the whole thing.
I’m hoping this lets me focus more on the Cup car
The way we're approaching this season is, I'm not committing to any races right now ... And as the season goes, if I decide I'm just a nervous ball of energy on Saturdays and I can't function without going and racing -- because that might be the case -- then we'll work to try to go (Nationwide) racing.
Truly I learned so many things in that Nationwide car that it's a real toss up whether or not it'll help the [Cup] performance on Sunday
Everybody knows what we're doing out there is giving NASCAR an idea of what the cars will run like in a group ... I guess the best way to put it is, once you have an excuse to quit doing that, it's probably best.
I think I’m one of the ones that kind of started that deal in 2008 and 2009
If we weren’t upset about it, if it wasn’t something that made you just want to – or that frustrated you, then you’re probably not in the right sport ... But I believe, I’d like to believe that we’re wise enough to not let that get the best of us, to just go out and perform and do the best we can. That’...
If I look back on this Chase, there's not one thing that I say, man, I wish I'd have done this or I wish I'd have done that ... This whole season has gone very well. I'm truly proud of this season.
Bob is like a brother to me and he’s probably the hardest-working guy in the business ... He’s actually back at the shop today preparing for 2012 so we can come back even stronger next year.
If I had known that there were so many drivers competing for this when I ran my lap at Homestead I’m not sure I would have pulled it off ... It says a lot for the Ford engine and the cars my team gives me every weekend.
If I had known that there were so many drivers competing for this when I ran my lap at Homestead I’m not sure I would have pulled it off ... It says a lot for the Ford engine and the cars my team gives me every weekend.
In 2005 it slipped through my fingers and I thought it was no big deal, we would do it next year, then I realized it is a lot tougher than that
There are lessons that I learned and things I learned about myself, about competition, about failure, about success -- things that I could not have learned any other way
Here is the deal -- whether we won tonight or we lost, tomorrow is the start of the next season
The whole goal during that time was just to get hired to drive a race car
We’ll decide how we’re going to be the best we can next year and build off of this
We’ll decide how we’re going to be the best we can next year and build off of this ... and not let any of this disappointment bring us down. We have to make sure we’re just as tough next year.
I wish I could do this every day
Everyone has lauded my graciousness in a losing effort
I just wanted to make sure that Bob knew that I believe he’s the best crew chief here and that he will be my crew chief for as long as he wants to be, and I’m behind him
