View Photo »Marvin's really gotten better with gauging our team, and a lot of it is because he knows our individual players ... He knows when to back off, he knows when to put shoulder pads on, he knows when to hold us longer for meetings, he knows when to get us out of practice earlier. And that's a head coach's m...
We want to play solid as an offense, get the running game going and having Ced (running back Cedric Benson) have another big game, and allowing us as receivers to be there when our numbers are called for Carson (quarterback Carson Palmer) ... This is more of a dress rehearsal for us for the playoffs.
He was a good ball boy ... Anything you asked him to do, he'd do. He's still the same guy to this day -- a very giving guy, very open. He'll do whatever his coaches and teammates ask of him. That's why he was drafted where he was drafted.
We're preparing as if Carson Palmer will be the quarterback and Chad Ochocinco will be a receiver and all that ... But Cincinnati's earned that right, and they'll make those choices.
No. You're not going to keep up with the passing offenses that throw the ball a lot. I can definitely do better and throw the ball better, but there are just teams that throw the ball a lot more.
When we were in California [during the summer working out in unofficial practices near the home of Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer], he took me wherever I wanted to go, because he was the only one who had a car. He bought me food. He did everything for me.
We're in a completely different situation personnel-wise now than we were in 2005
They didn't have quarterback Carson Palmer, an outstanding quarterback, in that game [with the Jets] and they had a number of regulars out with injuries ... Defensively, they are one of the better teams we have faced.
I was throwing the ball a little high ... I don't know if it was jitters or not, but I was missing some balls early. But I felt like I started to get it back as the game went on.
When I read and watch nightly shows about the NFL, it's interesting that sometimes Carson Palmer's name doesn't even come up when they talk about the Bengals ... This is an example of what a well-rounded team they've become.
I don't think we're thinking about next season at all ... We didn't expect to be in the situation that we are in right now. It's going to take some time to get past it, from the expectations that we had for ourselves and the way things worked out.
What makes them so good is their secondary ... They can control the clock, and if they get a lead, they're able to sit back and let their guys cover up. It's a good defense. They might have a chance to make a run if their defense is that good.
It was an awkward game. We just never really got in rhythm ... We never really put together a really nice drive. We had some big plays and some missed opportunities but all in all from the turnover to the missed field goals. Different things happened that didn't happen to us all year.
We never really got in rhythm
We were playing a lot better earlier ... We wore down a little bit, which happens with everyone. We definitely became worn down, but that's not an excuse.
We definitely have a lot of work to do ... We're a young team, but in order for us to be where we expect to be, we have to improve.
It's a top-ranked defense, and what makes them so good is their secondary
We had such big expectations for ourselves and our fans did too ... A lot of teams make the playoffs, but only one team goes home smiling and excited. Everyone else goes home feeling terrible with emptiness in their stomach.
They might have a chance to make a move ... Their defense is that good.
This time of year, the team that makes more plays wins ... From the first snap of the game until the end, every play matters. The Jets made more plays than we did from top to bottom.
None. As a team, we got together after the game, we talked about it, and we let it go. We let it go Sunday night. We're ready to play again. We understand it's you win or you go home, and I like our guys in that situation
Cedric brings an attitude, a presence. He has been the guy all year long and now, giving him that week off, which was really smart to do, he is fresh. He is one of those guys that as the game goes on, he is better. He starts running through more tackles and wears the defense down.
But from us, we'll have more guys suited up, more guys starting, and there's a lot more on the line
He's going through those learning pains that everybody goes through ... It's tough when you first get thrown in there, especially in that market. It's difficult, but he'll work through it. He'll figure it out. He's going to be a great player.
Hopefully no boos. That would be nice for once this season. Boos do not help us win football games.
