He had to make a deal with his father-in-law Louis B. Mayer to get Clark Gable and extra money by releasing the film through MGM, but Selznick made the movie exactly the way he wanted to.
I remember the premier, a fabulous event attended by all the big stars of Hollywood, including Charlie Chaplain, Shirley Temple, Douglas Fairbanks, Judy Garland, Ginger Rogers and Clark Gable
George was born to play this part. He’s the right combination of Cary Grant and Clark Gable. He’s got the debonair, gentlemanly quality of Grant as well as the animalistic, sexy side.
