Health issues always seemed to override his talent. Wood won 80 games in a Cubs uniform, same as Ken Holtzman and 12 fewer than Bill Hands, and never more than 14 in a season. You’d swear it was more, that it should have been more. Peavy was a...

View Photo »I didn't think I was going to hit the wall ... As I was going down, I hit my shoulder. It got tight on me. It is a little tighter now - I can't lift it.
I never got a Cy Young ... Hopefully, he'll end up with an MVP.
When you're facing a team three times in a row, it's tough ... I don't care what kind of stuff you have. Bartolo, after the first time through, you saw a definite mix of some changeups and breaking balls. It was effective for him.
I sought acceptance beyond what my appearance told people about me ... I wanted to pitch in the big leagues. I wanted to win a Cy Young Award. I wanted to be more than a human-interest story.
We are used to Felix ... We all know what he brings to the table and what he does confidence-wise for their team, but hopefully we can gain some confidence off of last time.
I have a Cy Young winner (Justin Verlander) who goes after fly balls like a wild man ... I won’t take that away from him.
I’ve seen everything happen in baseball ... But I don’t like to comment or criticize any game or play I see now.
I've got one of the best in the business who happens to be a Cy Young winner ... He shags all the time, goes after them like a wild man. I'm not going to take that away from him. That's ridiculous.
I remember when (National League Cy Young winner) Clayton Kershaw was at Highland Park, one of their opponents threw a three or a four out there ... They let Kershaw go out there, strike out a lot, get that win, and then in Games 2 and 3, the team had all their arsenal ready to go and beat them.
It was frustrating for us, a lot of us, because they were good players ... Willie Wilson was a great player. Willie Aikens was a great player. Jerry Martin, decent player. Vida Blue, former Cy Young award winner. So you take those guys out of our lineup and we weren't the same team.
I got (Billy) Butler with a runner on third, and then I made just a horrible pitch to Hosmer. That's something I can't do. Verlander allowed two runs, six hits and a walk and struck out seven. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner and league MVP also hit a batter in his 123-pitch, eight-inning outing. T...
I don't think we've seen any easy pitching yet ... But everybody pitching against us right now looks like they're in the race for the Cy Young Award.
I never make any pitcher sound like a Cy Young and we can't hit him ... But Darvish was moving balls around pretty good.
That's how you win games sometimes. ... We caught a break ... It's always a challenge against (Verlander). He won the Cy Young and MVP (last year) for a reason. But we kept battling and we caught a break there at the end.
When we heard the news, it was pretty exciting. ... It showed there can be a Cy Young, too, from Venezuela.
We watched, like waiting for that, for Santana to get those numbers to win the Cy Young
He wanted me to know that I was his guy, the guy he wanted there to help the team win some games while Carp was out ... Carp's a Cy Young Award winner. You can't try and do that. All I could do was stay myself.
I don't know if we be facing great pitching or it's a combination of good pitching and bad hitting. Maybe if we (had) come in another situation where we swinging the bats well, we make those guys look like nothing ... But right now, everybody look like Cy Young on the mound.
Just like we're not going to put too much into the first couple starts, we're not going to sit here and hand him the Cy Young and MVP after one start
They battled Clayton all day long ... We jumped early, Cy Young Award winner on the mound, and they keep scratching. He was in trouble pretty much every inning. That kept the pressure on him.
may have something to do with it. But I’m not allowing myself to think that way ... Guys have done it before. Tim Hudson was fourth in Cy Young the next year (after surgery). It’s not like it’s impossible. That’s what is frustrating about it. People have done it. I know I can do it. I’m just not doing i...
You were passed out under the statue of Cy Young
After that unpleasantness was over, I attempted to right myself with little success and collapsed, landing under a bronze figure of the great Cy Young. Beyond that, I have no further memory of that evening or of any event of the 2011 baseball season for that matter.
He was slowed a little bit his last year here, but for the most part, he obviously pitched well enough to win a Cy Young Award. So that speaks volumes for his talent and what he meant to our club. The he went out there and pitched, he was mentoring for every pitcher here.
He's on the team, but he ain't no Cy Young candidate
