Hordi (Darcy Hordichuk) is always ready, willing and prepared to do that any time ... The bottom line is we’re winning a hockey game and you have to be careful how you go about that, not to suggest we wouldn’t do it in the future.
Everybody is saying, ‘Why didn’t you fight this guy ... but the game has changed,’
Given the poor play of Belanger, Paajarvi and Eager, and the limitations of Darcy Hordichuk, the Oilers need a little help in their bottom-six.
I chased him around for a couple of shifts, but he obviously didn’t want to go ... It’s one of those things where you can only do waht you can do ... unless the game is out of hand and you can go after the guy.
After the first incident, I said, 'OK, he's going to do that, now I'm going to call him out in front of the whole building and say, OK, here's your chance,' ... I understand I didn't drop the gloves the first time, but the second time, I said, 'You're not at end of your shift, I'm not at the end of mine...
The nice thing is we play each other again and we'll get a chance to settle it. We've never crossed paths. Today was the first time he went out of the way to actually fight me. It'll be different next time. If I know first shift we're going to go, then I'm going to pace myself. I'm not going to run arou...
We talked about it with Stauby ... We like to deal with those things internally, and nobody felt worse than him.
I told him I’m at the end of my shift here, if you want to square off at the start of next shift ... He said we’re going right now. One thing I’ve learned is you never fight when you’re tired.
I told him we’d go later when I was fresh, we’d go in the middle of the ice. Next thing I know, I’m going to hit him and I’m getting a cross-check in the face and six punches
He grabbed me at the end of my shift
One thing I’ve learned in my career is, you never fight when you’re tired (at the end of a shift) ... He had his chance in the middle of the ice, when we were both fresh. I think he was a little bit frustrated that he might have to square off in his own building, and get embarrassed.
