Ken has his own ways of explaining these things ... I think frankly anything is better than another five years of this Labour Government. I start from a very simple first principle ... It is not Gordon Brown or David Cameron or Nick Clegg who are kingmakers in British politics, it's the British people. The votes of the British people are what should determine what happens. Whichever party has the strongest mandate from the British people,...

Today the youth unemployment rate has reached a record high
Nick Clegg and David Cameron ask serious questions about different aspects of the campaign. They can do that , and they should be asked
Unlike many other European countries, Britain does not have a written constitution ... Given the increasing amount of EU law with which we have to deal, we would amend the law... to make it explicit that ultimately Britain's parliament is sovereign.
I have got questions about the role of Lord Ashcroft in the Turks and Caicos Islands and we need an unequivocal and unambiguous answer from David Cameron about his status and potential role in the future

David Cameron and George Osborne are the Jedward of politics. Hilarious to watch. All spin and no substance. But you won’t be laughing if they win
I believe these things can stop Britain's relationship with the EU from heading in the wrong direction
This is typical of the Tories under David Cameron — a big announcement but, when when you look at the detail, there is a huge gap between what they say and what they actually believe.
I did not promise a referendum come what may because once the Lisbon Treaty is the law, there's nothing anyone can do about it. And I'm not going to treat people like fools and offer a referendum that has no effect. What I am promising today is do-able, credible, deliverable - giving the British people ...
Full marks to David Cameron for identifying the greatest moral evil of broken Britain - the way in which the welfare state has eroded the incentives of the poorest members of our society to build better lives for themselves.

The idea that things like Sure Start, the NHS or tax credits are killing kindness is a crazy sign of how Thatcherite David Cameron really is. It insults the millions of families, neighbours and community groups across the country engaged in daily acts of kindness, generosity and creativity - often suppo...
Not at all ... The party actually wants us to have a fresh approach in Europe. But above all, the vote that we need is a vote to get rid of a government that has completely let people down.
It is dishonest for David Cameron to pretend that the proposals in this speech would reduce poverty when, behind the rhetoric, this is simply a return to the Thatcherite approach that caused long-term unemployment to soar and child poverty to double.
We cannot hold a referendum and magically make those posts or the Lisbon Treaty itself disappear, any more than we could hold a referendum to stop the sun rising in the morning
Many people in the Jewish community have noted with concern the recent attacks on David Cameron’s allies in eastern Europe
I recognise there are some who, now that we cannot have a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, want a referendum on something else . . . anything else. But I just don’t think it’s right to concoct some new pretext for a referendum simply to have one for the sake of it. That wouldn’t survive serious scrutiny...
I make no secret of the fact that I have very good connections with the Conservatives and I was clear in my own mind when David Cameron became leader that he was the man who was going to turn things round for the Tories

But I just don’t think it’s right to concoct some new pretext for a referendum simply to have one for the sake of it. That wouldn’t survive serious scrutiny...
Like all Conservative MPs and MEPs, I was elected on an explicit Manifesto Commitment to a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty ... Yesterday, David Cameron ejected that commitment and repudiated that policy.
We cannot hold a referendum and magically make the Lisbon Treaty itself disappear
David Cameron's Welsh 'leek' has left the Scottish Tories looking like prize neeps.
We will give the British people a referendum lock to which only they should hold the key, a commitment very similar to that which exists in Ireland
