David Cameron is right to stand firm against those in the Conservative party who want Britain to withdraw from the European Union. He must act swiftly to restore order and ensure that he remains in control of his new European agenda
I believe these things can stop Britain's relationship with the EU from heading in the wrong direction
Don’t misunderstand me: I voted for David Cameron as leader, I like him, and I reckon he’d be a million times better than Gordon Brown as Prime Minister. One of his strengths is that, unlike Gordon Brown, he doesn’t mind people disagreeing with him
I did not promise a referendum come what may because once the Lisbon Treaty is the law, there's nothing anyone can do about it. And I'm not going to treat people like fools and offer a referendum that has no effect. What I am promising today is do-able, credible, deliverable - giving the British people ...
As long as he [David Cameron] is at the helm of the Conservative Party, there is no hope whatsoever of achieving any progress in the battle against Brussels.

And I’m not going to treat people like fools and offer a referendum that has no effect. What I am promising today is do-able, credible, deliverable – giving the British people ...
So much for David Cameron’s guarantee to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty ... He is not being honest with people. The fact is you can’t simply opt out of treaty obligations.
Not at all ... The party actually wants us to have a fresh approach in Europe. But above all, the vote that we need is a vote to get rid of a government that has completely let people down.
David Cameron's position on Europe is false and dangerous
We cannot hold a referendum and magically make those posts or the Lisbon Treaty itself disappear, any more than we could hold a referendum to stop the sun rising in the morning
Well, to me and millions of others it is apparent that it is no longer possible to trust the Tory party or David Cameron when they make promises about Europe.
I recognise there are some who, now that we cannot have a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, want a referendum on something else . . . anything else. But I just don’t think it’s right to concoct some new pretext for a referendum simply to have one for the sake of it. That wouldn’t survive serious scrutiny...
David Cameron will be terrified of betraying the Eurosceptic wing of his party, but he must come clean on where he now stands. This dithering and evasion shows he is now the heir to Brown more than the heir to Blair. If he can't make his position clear on an issue as crucial as Europe, he is not fit for...

David Cameron needs to come clean with the British people: why is he breaking his pledge to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty? How can David Cameron claim he'll fight to repatriate powers from Brussels when he won't even fight to implement his own past words?
We cannot hold a referendum and magically make the Lisbon Treaty itself disappear
What is the point in David Cameron upending one pledge on Europe but promising he'll offer us yet more European promises in his general election manifesto?
We will give the British people a referendum lock to which only they should hold the key, a commitment very similar to that which exists in Ireland
As David Cameron has said, we need an association of member states. In order to achieve this, we cannot simply cherry-pick individual aspects of the treaty and call for renegotiation of those. We need a full referendum on Lisbon as we were promised and as we voted in the House of Commons. No ifs or buts...
We think that Europe is supposed to be an association of member states, not a country called Europe
The Tories and David Cameron are in total disarray over Europe. Despite their claims to have changed as a party, the Tories always cave in to a right-wing fringe over Europe.
