Well, first and foremost, Boomer, I don’t play Davis Cup
The Fed Cup is for women, Davis Cup for men.
The USTA felt we did a good job as a fill in at the last minute for somebody else who canceled, and they said they wanted to do it here again and make $100,000 if we had a stadium ... This gives us that option, and the stadium is going to be Davis Cup size court. They are just waiting for me to finish t...
Beating Federer was the precursor ... And then John competed well throughout Indian Wells and beat Novak and played Roger tough in the finals. But I don't think Indian Wells happens without that Davis Cup win over Roger. That was the steppingstone.
From the onset we need to focus on our goals for the next season, and perhaps the most important thing would be to get a third member capable of matching a certain level on the Davis Cup squad of the UAE
It’s been a great couple weeks in Monaco with the Davis Cup and now the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 event ... It’s always a pleasure to see Prince Albert II and the beautiful scenery. We couldn’t ask for a better place to win our 20th Masters 1000 title.
Not only are we pleased with the result and the promotion, but we are also happy to see our two younger players get some Davis Cup match experience, and that is going to be vital for building up a secure future for the squad
In parts it's not flat ... Normally the courts here are fantastic. They said they had a few problems with it during the Davis Cup [earlier this month] but they changed it. Clay courts usually take a while if you make changes to them, before they've settled. That's probably why there were a few bad bounc...
For somebody his height, playing that well on clay, winning against Federer in Switzerland, [in Davis Cup in Monte Carlo] against Tsonga, Simon quite comfortably, as well. For somebody his height, it's a bit surprising the way he moves on clay
Normally the courts here are fantastic. They said they had a few problems with it during the Davis Cup, but they changed it.
I don’t know what I would have done today if I hadn’t played those (Davis Cup) matches ... I was able to get used to the clay and start sliding on the surface. Certainly, it was an advantage.
We are delighted that our past Davis Cup players are involving themselves in activities such as this. It is a great way in which they are able to give back to the game and act as role models to young players
The Davis Cup was the result of the vision and thinking of Rama Ranganathan, the founder of the Perks Institutions. He was the founding Secretary of the Coimbatore District Tennis Association. Tennis became a really popular and celebrated sport here around the 1950s
One of the first requirements to host a Davis Cup in a city is a five-star hotel. And, of course, in 1977, our city did not have one
This textile town of Tamil Nadu has gained a tennis atmosphere which will be heightened as the Davis Cup East-Zone quarter final between the two countries starts on December 11
When you have that in your head and that mindset, then it's maybe sometimes easier. We were fit and never minded playing a lot of tennis on the weekend. When you do something for the country that helped you in difficult times, it's even better. I think that is still considered one of the biggest achieve...
As the Davis Cup event was played in Colombo, Sri Lanka, there was further glamour with press conferences ... Playing in front of my home crowd … was a very proud moment for me.
Looking at my career ... I did feel like I was missing it. It gives something special to your career. It’s another thing after Davis Cup, the Olympic medal, and two Top 10 finishes and now a Masters 1000, so it makes everything look—look better, actually.
We are looking forward to the Davis Cup. It's only the beginning.
It’s an annual camp for all ages and levels. Most of the top coaches and players came through this club, such as Darian King [who recently competed in the Davis Cup] who passed through ten years ago
That would be dream come true to be able to win again ... I try and be calm and not so show my emotions too much and I’ve talked to [Davis Cup captain Jim Courier] about it, and it's so hard. You have goals, but you are used to be out there and having control and of your own destiny. But it’s really rew...
I think he's hungry. Vasek's been playing well, and moving up. Really, it should be the same [Davis Cup] team. But we don't have the luxury of choice in the roster. It's who will be playing the best at the time, and there are quite a few months ahead for players to prove themselves.
I think my schedule last year really didn't do me any favours. I'm focusing all my energy into fewer weeks and focusing on the bigger events - such as the Olympics, Toronto, the U.S. Open, the Davis Cup. I've learned not to stretch myself out too much.
