We beat John Barrow ... What we couldn't beat was the combination of the (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) coming in here at the last minute and bailing him out and the behind the scenes undermining of our campaign by the (National Republican Congressional Committee). You can't beat both parties at the same time.
A year later, when Dean was elected chairman, he asked me to join the team he was building at the Democratic National Committee. He spoke of a 50-state strategy and asked me to take on the job of training director, traveling to all 50 states -- and even abroad -- to train Democrats on how to build a stronger party and win elections.
Our friends at the Democratic National Committee laid it all on the line to bring change this year. We've been reviewing the books, and the DNC went into considerable debt to secure victory for Barack and Joe. It took unprecedented resources to staff up all 50 states, train field organizers, and build the technology to reach as many swing voters as possible.
I have just gotten into politics and I now listen to you religiously and have been reading your column. Will you please write a book!!!
Russert-esque knowledge mixed with my grandpa's sense of humor. (And by the way, I'm a sucker for lines like the governor of Arizona having a great sense of Yuma.)
Thanks for making politics worthwhile to listen to. For too long I've been apathetic about politics, but after listening to your show [on TOTN] I'm slowly coming around.
I'm a huge fan, have been for the past year. I listen to Wednesday's Talk of the Nation and the 'It's All Politics' podcast just because I can't get enough of you. I could listen to you all day.
