It’s always in your mind when fillies cross over, not just Eight Belles ... I just didn’t feel it was the right thing to do. I felt it was important for her to win a Breeders’ Cup race and be a champion. That was more important than racing in the Classic.
I think that is great that they've banned steroids, I think they should have done it a while ago ... I think unfortunately Eight Belles accident was definitely one of the reasons that brought it to a head.

In a perfect world, and I don't think this is unreasonable, I feel that if an owner buys a yearling, he is just as responsible for that horse's well-being as if they had a kid ... Some people would say, well, that's not doable. But I think we have to reassess whether we should be doing it that way.
They said you could fire half or three-quarters of your help, and that never rang true for us ... I will not say that the synthetic tracks are the answer. They are going to help, but they're not the panacea. Unfortunately, the companies created expectations that are too high.
