It's a time for him to look at how he fills his resume ... He has to be able to come up with a championship or be put in a category with Elgin Baylor, [Charles] Barkley, Karl Malone, to name a few. In the twilight of his career - and that's what's going on now - he needs to come to grips with that fact.
Wind blowing, threat of rain, when's the court going to be dry enough to play? . . . Finding a good ball to play with was always interesting. And then there was always the curvature of the court, with asphalt and cement, there always was a slant. And backyard games, a lot of one-on-one games (imitating) Elgin Baylor and Jerry West.
Having Elgin Baylor run your team must be like getting in the car with my mom at night, when she's careening off curbs and saying things like, 'I can't believe how bad my eyes have gotten' and 'We shouldn't have ordered that bottle of wine.' Just constant fear.
The best part about this game is it's kind of like a trial run ... We'll get to see how we can take advantage of a beautiful facility.
