But in the event that the Jets are willing to go that route, Burfict is believed to have the goods to be every bit the stud regardless of his warts. As of right now at safety the Jets have Brodney Pool, a fairly reliable if undersized player, and Eric...
For the first time in a few years, the Jets are picking in the middle of the draft and might have a shot at landing a guy like Courtney Upshaw. Either way, the Jets need an injection of youth and speed to their defense, and bringing back an old Bryan...

We’re still making a few mistakes that are hurting us in the end
Through trades and compensation picks, the Jets drafted 10 players, which included D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold, Brad Smith, Leon Washington, Drew Coleman and Eric Smith. That draft bounty helped lay the groundwork for the success Rex Ryan...
He’d do a great job filling that eighth guy in the box role even if he couldn’t cut it as a full time safety. Is it worth the risk though? I haven’t decided on that yet. He’d probably be a third round pick. Spence might be even slower than Eric Smith. ...
And all that wasted time when there was little time available to us (due to the lockout) ended up in no signing of the prime target, the prime reason for putting much of the offseason on hold: Aso is not a Jet. Also think it was a mistake to put so...

Eric Smith is a warrior, and I would say if I was starting a football team, I would want him on my team every day of the week.
A ball-hawk safety: During the 2011 season, the Jets' lack of quality safeties exposed them on more than one occasion. Jim Leonhard is recovering from a very serious injury and may be unable to attend training camp, and Eric Smith's inability to play...
If Westy brings him back, he loses a ton of credibility. Hopefully Folk will never come within 10,000 feet of New York ever again. Brodney Pool: I'm not ready to give up on Pool. I don't think he was ever given the attention he deserved in training...

Eric Smith is a warrior, and I would say if I was starting a football team, I would want him on my team every day of the week.
We feel like we want to have games where if our offense scores three points, we win the game. We want to have a shutout every game ... It’s just a few drives here or there that make it feel like we’re playing like crap.
Eric’s played well ... He’s probably played more plays than any player on this team [between his special teams and defensive responsibilities]. We probably ask him to play too much. He’s going to give you everything he has. I can’t say enough good things about Eric Smith.
We’ve played decent but we haven’t played up to our expectations
We haven’t played up to our expectations
If I had to do it over again, I would say [forget] covering the tight end ... I’m just going to run up the field.
They don't actually know what anybody's responsibility is on the field
When you get put in a situation like that, it's a lose-lose situation
We know playing this position, if anything goes wrong it's on us, regardless of the situation ... It's tough, you never want to be part of something that cost you the game. Except for that last drive against Denver we feel, defensively, we played like we should have. We played the well that whole game u...
We just play what’s called.
Any bad feeling, we all had
They basically had the field goal and were going to tie the game, but we called an all-out pressure -- and that’s what happened
You have to catch him because nobody else is around
You got to catch him ... Because nobody else was around.
